Executive Order and Impeachment

Newly elected Congressman Steve Stockman (R-TX) warned President Obama yesterday that if an executive order was issued banning certain types of firearms, the Congressman would then file a bill of impeachment against the President.  You can read more about Congressman Stockman’s charge here.

  1. If you are at a baseball game and the batter starts whacking the umpire with the bat, do you ban baseball bats? If there are a series of drunk driving incidnents over a month’s time, do you ban people from driving cars? No, of course not. It is not the baseball bat or the car that are to blame. It is the person that is in control of the bat or the car. The same goes for guns. Banning guns will not solve the problem. Some people that use guns use them irresponsibly. Instead of banning guns, Obama should focus on security and counseling in schools to identify children who may be angry or lonely.

  2. Banning guns will only take guns away from law abiding citizens. Criminals are criminals because they break the law. Criminals are mainly the ones who commit these gun crimes that have put everyone in an uproar. By putting a firearm ban, we would not prevent further gun crime, only make law abiding citizen defenseless against those psychopaths.

  3. It’s hard to say if banning firearms would decrease criminal activity, but it is something that should be tested and analyzed. People are to blame for their actions with guns, not the guns themselves. However, by putting a ban on certain guns the chances of people getting ahold of these weapons can possibly be more difficult and less likely to happen. Criminals are people who break the law, plain and simple, so there is a chance that no matter what they’ll do what they have to in order to gain access to these weapons. It’s a tough theory that isn’t black or white, right or wrong. There’s no yes or no answer. However, it should be tested and worked on,

  4. Banning guns would be dishonoring our second amendment right. As a U.S. citizen, we should be able to bear arms. I also think that we should be able to conceal and carry. If it was legal to carry a gun, then less people would be killed. My reasoning for this is that there are far more sane and good people in the country as opposed to psychotic and evil people. Not only should Obama not ban guns, but he also needs to see the other side to this and think about how much crime rates would go down if Americans were able to carry all over in the country. If Obama takes our second amendment right away, then he should be impeached.

  5. Obama is doing, what I feel is the best job he can do in this ailing country, considering what he has to deal with within the Congress and Senate. Taking away the very thing that is eliminating our people such as the firearm will help more then most to get this country back onto the right track. Not all firearms will be excluded from the equation, but it is a start towards rehabilitation for America.

Banning guns will not solve the issue of violence if anything it can make it worse. To say guns are the reason for violence is like saying spoons are the reason for obesity, cars are the reason for accidents and so on. There were many incidents in which a crime takes place and the only thing stopping the crime is an armed civilian. Criminals will find a way to commit their crimes no matter what and innocent civilians who are affected by these crimes should have the right to protect themselves.

    • So, i am not going to support the bill of impeachment, I support the president with his decision because the weapones sometimes go to the wrong people,Banning guns might solve part of the problem.

  7. I do feel that banning guns would be a wrong step for President Obama. In relation to the school shooting this year, there was obviously something wrong in the brain of the shooter- probably an undiagnosed psychological disorder. Our country should be more concerned with providing better care for the mentally ill an more treatment options for them. Maybe then less psychopaths would go unnoticed and many of the atrocities that take place of our nation could be prevented.

People are forgetting our bill of rights, and I dont understand why our president is able to use assualt rifles to protect his family;on the contraturary, I can not own one to protect mine? I also feel as if these kind of actions make me paranoid to the point that major communist leaders ban firearms before they take other rights away. Instead scince our nation is hell bent on military spending why dont we place a memeber national graud in public schools? The only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.

  9. Regardless of political standing, ” a little intellectual elite in a far distant capitol can plan our lives better the we can plan them ourselves” (Ronald Reagan 1964) . The true definition of tyranny is “something made legal for the government but illegal for the citizens.” the government is for the people by the people and consist of the people so what makes people who are chosen to represent the people have a special privilege to have armed security guards to protect the “politician’s” family while that same guard cannot use those same weapons to protect his own family. gun violence has increased in the city of Chicago since gun bans. when a good that is highly prized is banned there becomes violence due to the black market the American people witnessed this in the 1920’s during a time called prohibition. the problem is “that they are not ignorant they just know so much that isn’t so” (Ronald Reagan 1964). Thomas Hobbes who was the main inspiration for the constitution said ” by natural law every human being is born with the RIGHT of self defense.” laws are meant to be simple, just and covers every one regardless of income, race, occupation, or who your family is, so why is it legal for government to protect the people in the government but Obama is trying to make it illegal to make for the people to themselves? True gun control is: “he who holds the gun has control” it should be the people who have the control not the government for this government is for the people by the people and of the people.

  10. These are all just political smoke-screens used by politicians uninterested in substantive change and more interested with trying to immanentize the eschaton. If only we could just have the right people, in the right places of power, then the world would become this beautiful Utopia! It’s ridiculous. Obama’s campaign was run on the slogan “Change”. A very radical campaign promise for any presumed (and I say that tongue in cheek) honest politician to make. I can harken back to a time during the 2008 campaign to an occasion where I heard our Vice President, who is nothing if not trenchant in his oratorical exposition, say the lines over and over again “That’s not change, that’s more of the same”. And it seems the leaders of this country took it upon themselves to use their counter-point to the McCain campaign as the actual platform upon which Obama’s two terms are now standing. Smoke and mirror tactics are all that remain. Change, was a lie. You get more of the same. “What? You want to talk about the budget crisis? I think a lively discussion about the 2nd article in the Bill of Rights is far more important right now than our nations fiscal solvency.” I won’t even dignify the assault on our liberties in this posting because ultimately this is not what the issue being raised is actually about. It’s absolutely insulting. Fight the zeitgeist!

If Barack Obama was able to some how ban guns in the United States, I would have supported an impeachment on him. To ban guns is un-American. We as people have the right to bare arms. If Obama was able to pass that silly law, he would be changing the Bill of Rights, which was made all the way back in 1776 by our fore fathers.
